Royal Air Maroc is set to become the latest member of the Oneworld alliance.
Moroccan airline, Royal Air Maroc, is set to join the Oneworld alliance giving the group a partner in Africa.
Becoming the 14th full member of the alliance, the Casablanca-based carrier will add 34 destinations and 21 countries to the Oneworld network.
The airline already codeshares with three Oneworld members: Iberia, Qatar Airways and Russia’s S7 Airlines.
Airline alliances allow carriers to book travellers on each others’ routes, giving them access to other markets.
Additionally, they allow passengers to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles on each others’ flights.
Travellers who reach a certain status on an airline’s frequent flyer program are effectively status matched on other airlines within the same alliance.
“It’s an honour for us to accept your invitation” to join Oneworld, says Abdelhamid Addou, chief executive of Royal Air Maroc, at an announcement in New York yesterday.
“We are delighted to unfold Oneworld’s wings over Africa.”
Royal Air Maroc’s membership will likely take effect in mid-2020.
